"Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life."

An American businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked why he didn’t stay out longer and catch more fish. The fisherman said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. Then the American asked what he did with the rest of his time. The response was, “I sleep late, take a siesta with my wife, play with my children, and stroll to the village to see my amigos.”
The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing, and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. You could eventually have a fleet of boats, open your own cannery, cut out the middleman, and control the product, processing, and distribution. You would then need to leave this small coastal fishing village and live in LA or New York to run your enterprise. In 20-25 years, you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich.”
The Mexican fisherman responded, “Then what?” The American said, “You could retire! Move to a small coastal fishing village where you could sleep late, take a siesta with your wife, play with your children, and stroll to the village to see your amigos.”

You could eventually have a fleet of boats, open your own cannery, cut out the middleman, and control the product, processing, and distribution. You would be making low-cost canned tuna available for far cheaper than the current market price, allowing many millions of impoverished families and their children, in developing countries worldwide, access to crucial nutrients found only in fish. And in addition, by being able to outprice the competition, you could prevent the overfishing and ultimate extinction of the yellowfin tuna. You could retire not only wealth, but having made the world a truly better place, especially for millions of children.”
The Mexican fisherman responded, “But then I wouldn’t be able to sleep late, take a siesta with my wife, play with my children, and stroll to the village to see my amigos.”
